A BARRY teenager will jet off on a dream trip to the United States after she proved she was a fundraising worthy pageant queen.

19-year-old Jeyanne Wiltshire scooped the honour of representing Barry and the UK after emerging victorious in the South West Dreams contest.

The former Bryn Hafren pupil earned the Miss Teen Barry Galaxy 2010/11 having competed in pageants since she was 15 years-old.

She won the contest’s regional heat last April achieving the highest score in the whole competition.

She then went forward to the Miss UK finals in Pontins, Prestatyn, where she earned her crown.

Jeyanne said: “I was quite nervous because I was competing against some of the best girls in the country. The pageant is really big on charity and community and supports their own charity dream queens. From the time I won my title up until the finals I was doing a lot of appearances and raising money for charity.”

The teenager who works in the University Hospital of Wales’ medical records department, raised £1,200 by running a pageant for the cystic fibrosis unit in Llandough hospital.

She also raised £95 for the Dream Queen’s charity by getting a Cardiff Devils jersey, having it signed by the team and then auctioning it on eBay.

She said: “My new title is Miss UK Dreams and the prize is going to Wisconsin, America, all expenses paid to compete in an international pageant Dream Girls USA.

“The top prize is $10,000 so I'm really excited.

“I had the best weekend. I went up with my best friend through pageants, Jemma Cox, and we met up with our other friends. It didn't feel like a competition as everyone was so nice. It was like going for a weekend away with 78 of my closest friends.

“I cried when they announced me as the winner just because I couldn't believe I'd done it. I've worked so hard over the last year and I’m so happy to be going to America this June. I’ve just got to get my outfits sorted. I'm really looking forward to meeting all the American girls. I went to compete in America when I was 16 and I was so mesmerised by them and how amazing they are at pageants so I'm looking forward to going again and making more friends.

“The experience as a whole will be amazing and I’m going with an incredible group of girls so it's going to be so much fun.

“I'm looking forward to using my title to do more things within my community and working with charities close to home like the cystic fibrosis unit that's opened in Llandough hospital.”

Jeyanne also ran a pageant called Miss UK Diamond in November and will run that event again this year.
