THE weather was perfect for an afternoon ramble – warm sunshine and blue skies – and so Valeways walkers met at Dinas Powys common to walk St Andrew’s Ridgeway. Three walkers keen to make the most of the weather joined Babs and Jan and they set off up Twyncyn towards Beauville Lane.

Walking up the hill they heard birds singing and stopped to admire the magnificent views across the fields towards Barry and the Bristol Channel with Flat Holm and Steep Holm in the distance.

A little further along they turned left and dropped down into the valley. They crossed the field and headed towards the lane which was bordered with wild garlic, not yet in full bloom; the lane led them to the 12th century Norman church of St Andrew’s.

Turning right at the church and right again they continued up the hill taking time to admire a beautiful magnolia tree in full bloom as well as the many colourful spring flowers growing in the hedgerows.

They followed the lane till they reached the ridgeway which offered amazing views across to Wenvoe and beyond on one side and the golf course and coast on the other. They watched a lone buzzard flying high in the sky and walked through fields of sheep and lambs enjoying the warm sunshine on their backs.

They eventually reached the lane and headed back down the hill towards the start of their walk, again taking time to digest those amazing views once more.
