CARDIFF and Vale University Health Board is currently looking for volunteers to support the Meet & Greet Service at University Hospital of Wales Cardiff (UHW) and University Hospital Llandough (UHL).

As part of National Volunteers’ Week, an open day will be held in the Macmillan Centre in the Concourse at the UHW on Tuesday, June 2 from 10am-2pm and in the Chapel at UHL on Thursday, June 4 from 11am-3pm.

Cardiff and Vale UHB welcomes volunteering applications from all walks of life, including people who have experience of a mental health condition.

The Meet and Greet volunteers provide a welcoming service to all patients, visitors, carers and Health Board staff across various hospital sites.

Volunteers are here to help by making patients, visitors feel welcome by directing and accompanying them to their requested location, assuring anxious patients or visitors who may be lost or unsure where to go and assisting with general enquiries as part of providing an information service.

Michelle Fowler, Volunteer Manager said: “Coming into hospital as a patient or visitor can be quite stressful if you’re not sure where to go. Our facilities are growing all the time, which makes it more difficult for people to find their way from one place to another. This is one of the main reasons why we are looking to provide additional Meet and Greet Volunteer support in this area. Volunteers make a huge difference to the patient and visitors experience whilst attending the hospital.”
