OFFERS are being invited for developers to take on Barry's Waterfront IQ Southern Development Site, with hopes still being pinned on bringing a multiplex cinema to Barry.

The £30m mixed use regeneration project within Barry Waterfront is located alongside the £230m Quays development, next to the new ASDA supermarket near the Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre Restaurant.

It also neighbours the historic Pumphouse building, which is undergoing work to convert it to cover a mix of uses, including apartments and restaurants.

Paul Tarling from JLL, marketing the site on behalf of the Council, said: “The IQ Southern Development Site presents an exciting development opportunity in a highly accessible position within the heart of Barry Waterfront, an area that is being regenerated with new homes, shops and restaurants.

"While an emphasis is placed on marketing the site for a cinema, the site has the potential for a range of uses, including food and drink, tourism and leisure, or even business uses.”

Councillor Lis Burnett Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “This site is a great opportunity for an imaginative developer or investor to join in with the ongoing successful regeneration of the Waterfront.

“We have already facilitated a new hotel and restaurant, a medical centre, a business centre and skills training centre, and due to be completed soon is the exciting restoration of the iconic Pumphouse that will bring new restaurants and places to live and work.

“We are very keen to find a developer for the IQ Southern Development site with the ability to bring forward a viable scheme that will complement our vision with the Welsh Government for creating a vibrant mixed use urban quarter and complement the wider regeneration of Barry’s Waterfront.”

The site is offered for sale by informal tender. The deadline for tender submissions is September 30.
