A DAUGHTER and father team have completed an epic three day horse and bike trek across more than 80 miles for charity.

Barry duo Aimee and Cavan Sullivan travelled from Margham Park to Painscastle, near Builth Wells in aid of Marie Curie and in memory of grandfather and dad Desmond Sullivan who died on cancer in March 2013.

Originally planning to take on the challenge with her fellow horse rider and friend Catherine Phipps, 31-year-old Aimee was forced to make some on the hoof plans when first Catherine's horse got a nail stuck in his foot and then Catherine fractured a rib.

Stepping in to save the day, dad Cavan, 56, said he would saddle up on his bike and accompany Aimee and her horse Delboy on their journey.

Things continued to not go to plan on the first day's 37 mile trek when the pair encountered everything from closed footpaths, to ending up in a wind turbine construction site and being trapped by a cattle grid and kissing gate - neither of which a horse can pass through.

Aimee said: "Luck was on our side and the construction workers were fantastic. They were all trying to find a way through or around for the horse.

"They spent over an hour radioing colleagues on other sites and driving round trying to find a piece of plywood for the horse to walk over the cattle grid.

"This failed but they managed to dismantle the kissing gate instead for the horse to pass through."

The second day saw problems of the two wheeled kind strike with Cavan suffering eight punctures, running out of puncture repair kits and having to push his bike for the last part of the 30 mile trip.

With a smoother third day, the pair arrived in Painscastle after a 15 mile jaunt through pleasant bridle routes and forestry.

Aimee was hoping to raise £1000 for Marie Curie through the event's Just Giving page, but with the total already topping £1600, she is now hoping to make it to even further.

"I am hoping to get to the £2000 mark and stop pestering people," she said. "Until a new event next year."
