BARRY Island’s million pound log flume has begun its assembly process with the Danter family hoping it will be open by Easter.

Constructors have accepted delivery of the necessary parts, as well as those for the giant ferris wheel, and are at the levelling process stage.

Levelling the ground has proved difficult and the ride will first be subject to stringent safety checks by inspectors, before visitors can enjoy the fun.

The two-chute flume replaces the iconic one-chute attraction which, in the 1980s attracted thousands of visitors.

Showman, Henry Danter, 72, who owns the fairground, said: “We were hoping to have it ready for half term, but it’s more likely to be Easter. We have got to get it right. There will be stringent safety checks. Safety is paramount and that takes time.”
