The development by the South Wales and Monmouthshire Housing Association to the west of Westward Rise, if approved by the ministry following the recent public inquiry, will mean a diversion of a footpath.

A trip to the bulb fields was the main idea for a party of 37 when they left on Thursday week for a weekend in Holland.

Youngsters of the town were delighted at the chance of taking part in the rag antics on the King Square on Saturday afternoon. A volunteer student was charging sixpence "a head" for anyone to break an egg over his cranium.

Members of the Barry branch of the National Union of Teachers decided to abandon the idea of a formal annual dinner this year and, instead, held an informal wine and cheese evening at the Hotel Water's Edge on Friday evening.

The idea was to have a "get together" with the special objective of inducing younger members to come along and meet and chat with older and more experienced members of the branch.

"A highly successful year" was the verdict on Tuesday last, when the Parents' Association of the 1st Barry Scout Group held their annual general meeting in "Smugglers" Park Lane.

The official opening of the new extension of the Coleg-y-Fro will take place on Monday, next, May 9, and will be performed by the deputy chairman of the National Coal Board, London.

Barry Youth won the toss and in ideal conditions, kicked off. A break by the Blackwood backs in the opening minutes was effectively smothered by good tackling from their opposite numbers.

The forthcoming motor cycle road racing programme of events for solo and sidecar machines on May 21 promoted by the Barry Motor Club at the Llandow Circuit near Cowbridge, is now nearly completed. At the time of reporting over 140 entries for the major events had been secured.
