IT’S been a busy 12 months for Barry Ladies’ Choir.

Last Summer they said an emotional farewell to Alice Jones, who had been with them for eight years and who had seen the choir grow and become more confident under her direction.

Her place has been filled by Matt Price, who has proved to be more than enthusiastic and is making them achieve new levels of singing by varying the style of songs and widening their repertoire.

Their summer concert last year was held at Crossway Church, and raised funds towards building work being done there. The choir was delighted to help towards this, it is very much a welcome place where they meet each week, and an important part of the weekly practise sessions.

In the last year they have also sung in St Cyres School with Cowbridge Male Voice Choir, in the Choirs of Barry concert hosted by the mayor of Barry with Barry Community Choir and Barry Male Voice Choir, as well as their Christmas concert at Crossway which was followed by a mince pie social gathering.

As well as meeting to sing each week, they enjoy social events as well. Last summer they enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea at Fonmon Castle, and following this they were asked to sing at a Christmas event at the venue.

This summer they have plans in the pipeline to visit the SS Great Britain at Bristol, as well as a meal out to share with friends. They are a very approachable group and don’t audition, and ages range from 21 to 90.

If you feel you would like to join them then please go along and meet them on a Tuesday at Crossway Church, 7pm. You will receive a warm welcome.
