A MUSIC charity will treat residents at Ty Dyfan Care Home in Barry to weekly creative sessions.

The Barry care home was one of three venues chosen across South Wales supporting isolated elderly people, many of whom are living with dementia, to be part of a legacy programme for the Being Creatively Active Project funded by Arts Connect.

Live Music Now Wales musicians Olivia Gomez and Ella O’Neill have been visiting the care home for seven weekly sessions, taking residents on a bespoke musical journey from the comfort of their own lounge.

The charity specialises in training exceptional musicians across all genres within music and dementia, alongside special educational needs and other areas of health and wellbeing. Musicians deliver specially designed, interactive live music performances which have been proven to positively affect mood, relationship, and the health and wellbeing of both residents and staff.

Ty Dyfan homes 20 residents, most of who are living with severe or final stages of dementia.

Live Music Now musicians strive to engage with residents of care homes by tailoring programmes to participants needs and circumstances.

During each Ty Dyfan performance, pianist Ella O’Neill will perform two piano solos, as one of the residents previously worked as a piano teacher, and enjoys listening to this particular performance.

At the end of the residency the home will be gifted with a special CD of songs performed by the musicians during the project, which they can listen to at any time and continue to promote creativity, health and wellbeing.
