A VALE of Glamorgan council driver is rapidly establishing himself as a beach Banksy after his Barry Island beach sand art gained public recognition.

Driver, Russell Morgan, of Claude Road, Barry, has racked up countless art fans after posts of his Whitmore Bay work were distributed on social media and viewed by Barry Island visitors in person.

Dad-of-two Mr Morgan, 43, said he was delighted with the response to his use of a valtra tractor unit and barber surf rake trailer.

He said: “I've been raking the beach at Whitmore Bay. I've been doing this for about 17 years. I start the beach around 6am and finish it around 8:30am ish. I take a lot of pride in doing the beach as it a lovely beach - one of the best.

A little bit of OCD kicks in when doing it - straight lines and uniform turns. I’m not sure how big the beach is but the middle of the beach is a lot softer than the rest and the high tides bring a lot of debris such as large drift wood.”

He added: “Whitmore bay is the only beach I do. I've had some really nice comments on the way I do the beach which is nice to get noticed for the job I and the rest of the resort team do. Social media has gone a bit crazy on it which is good publicity for the Island and Barry itself.”
