A PUBLIC consultation on the proposal to expand Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg on its current site has begun.
The proposal is to meet the increased demand for Welsh Medium secondary education.
It recommends that the school’s current secondary capacity of 1151 places, is increased by 299 places to meet increased demand by September 2020.
Also included in the expansion proposals, are a new 3G pitch for the school and improvements to the reception, parking area and external spaces.
Pupils, parents, teachers and governors will have the chance to have their say on the proposal during the consultation period which will run until August 1.
Following a public consultation on the transformation of secondary education in Barry in May 2015, proposals have been re-considered by an advisory board, which includes representation from the schools’ governing bodies, head teachers, further and higher education, council officers and the cabinet member for regeneration and education.
A proposal to transform the two single sex secondary schools in Barry will be considered by the council’s cabinet in July and, if approved, will be consulted on in September 2016.
Vale council deputy leader, Cllr Lis Burnett said: “We look forward to hearing from everyone interested in the future of Welsh-medium education in the Vale. These exciting proposals offer a bright future for this popular and successful school.”
