VOTERS across Barry are going to the polls today (June 23) for the EU referendum.

Polling stations across the town are open from 7am until 10pm for people to cast their vote to decide whether to leave or remain in the European Union.

The Barry and District News has been out to ask people why it is so important to vote today.

A voter in the town centre told us "it's always important to vote and have your say because otherwise you can't complain" about the result.

Voters on Barry Island said it's important to vote because it's people's democratic right which has been fought for down the years.
