Extracts from the Barry & District News of July 29, 1966:

A last opportunity is afforded this week to see a special wish fulfilled - through the scheme devised by the Rotary Club of Barry and the Barry Round Table.

The "Wishing Well" is an idea through which members of the club can offer service to the community...but obviously there are limitations to the wishes which can be fulfilled for local people.

Fine weather favoured the annual sports day of the Murch Junior School, Dinas Powys, on Wednesday week. A long programme of events was well organised, and there was keen competition.

A special type of "roll-on roll-off" cargo ship, which will take many giant loads off Britain's roads, is expected to be unloading her first cargo at Barry today, having left the Port of Manchester on Tuesday on her maiden voyage.

Four children of the Rhws Primary School have recently been informed that their paintings have been successful in gaining selection for the Arts and Crafts Exhibition for entrance under the age of 18 years at the Royal Welsh National Eisteddfod to be held at Aberavon Port Talbot from August 1-6, 1966.

Approximately four tons of newspapers and magazines were collected by the young people, of Dinas Powys Methodist Church during their three-day "paper drive" last week.

Cars took the collectors to all parts of the village and then the paper was taken to the Youth House where a group of adults and young people sorted and tied it into parcels.

Seventy competitions entered for the Captain's Prize tournament which took the form of a 36 holes stroke play competition. Competitors had the choice of playing two rounds on one day or a round each day.

Barry Seconds won the toss at Pontypridd on Saturday and decided to bat on what proved to be a good, fast wicket.

With batsmen unaccustomed to the pace, runs were a little hard to get at first, but after a while runs flowed freely.
