Extracts from the Barry & District News of August 26, 1966:

The sight of a fully-rigged 300-ton schooner travelling serenely up the Bristol Channel will no doubt evoke plenty of interest amongst Barry residents.

For the Sail Training Association's "Sir Winston Churchill" which is due to dock at Cardiff on September 9, should be clearly visible from the Barry foreshore when she makes her way to and from Cardiff.

Loud exclamations of delight were heard when the mayor switched on this year's illuminations at Barry Island on Friday.

In his opening remarks the mayor thanked the people who were concerned with the construction of the illuminations, especially the South Wales Electricity Board.

On Wednesday week at the Memorial Hall, a concert was given by the Salvation Army Band and a march played at this concert was named Coleg-y-Fro, in honour of Coleg-y-Fro and its principal.

As part of a development programme, Cambrian Airways, are to purchase a special purpose computing accounting machine to take over accounting functions at the airline's head office at the Glamorgan Airport, Rhoose.

The purr of water over a wier, the crackling of blazing logs, the smell of wood-smoke and canvas, all formed a perfect background to a presentation recently made to a member of the 1st Barry Scout Group.
