IT HAS been a wonderful day for pupils at Ysgol Gymraeg Bro Morgannwg after achieving exceptional GCSE results.

The school has seen an impressive 86 per cent of pupils achieve five A* to C grades, while 23.25 per cent attained five or more A* to C grades, which is an improvement of two per cent from 2015.

Also, an impressive 71 per cent of pupils, an increase of 4.1 per cent from 2015, gained five GCSEs, including Welsh or English and Maths.

Brennig Davies, who was the school's highest performer, was "thrilled" with his results.

He said: "I got 11 A*s, one A and a Distinction in Further Maths. I was just shocked when I saw what I got."

Mr Davies' twin, Tirion Davies, also celebrated with her two A*s, five As, two Bs and three Cs.

"I did very well - but I may resit the C that I got in Maths. If I do resit, I hope to get an A," said Miss Davies.

"Still can't believe that I got an A* in English Language and History."

Having studied very hard, Niclas Want was "over the moon" with his results.

"I'm very pleased with the eight A*s, four As and a Distinction in Further Maths. Well, I'm especially pleased with the A* of course."

He added: "I was expecting a B in Chemistry, but got an A*."

Hywel Price, the Welsh medium school's head teacher, said: "The results are really good. I am absolutely delighted for our pupils. Teachers, governors and parents have been so supportive. The pupils have done very well and some have had very challenging circumstances but have still succeeded."
