POLICE are investigating what they have described as “reckless behaviour endangering lives” after a spate of fires occurred in Barry over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Barry firefighters were called to John Street, Palmerston, at 12.13am on Monday, to attend a rubbish skip which they believe had deliberately set alight.

Police are linking this to a previous incident in the garden of a derelict property on Church Road, Cadoxton, when crews attended a sofa fire – also believed to be set deliberately – at 11.28pm on Sunday.

Firefighters also attended an incident, not reported to the police, at 8.17pm on Sunday, where refuse was deliberately set on fire to the rear of Barry Library, on Holton Road.

A South Wales police spokesman said: “We are linking them. They are reckless acts which could have had more serious consequences.”
