A nursery received a special visitor ahead of a vital campaign to encourage consumers to shop locally.

Labour MP Jo Stevens visited Little Inspirations Day Nursery in Barry emphasising the importance of small businesses to the Welsh economy.

The Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Federation of Small Businesses was accompanied by Rob Basini, South Wales Development manager for Federation of Small Businesses.

Ms Stevens praised the childcare sector for playing a particularly important role.

“Businesses like the Little Inspirations Day Nursery are vital not only for what they give to the local community, but also for often enabling parents and guardians to go back into work.”

Managing director of Little Inspirations Jenine Gill was amazed at Jo’s generosity during the visit.

“Jo was already aware of some of the challenges that the childcare sector faced, post-pandemic,” said Jenine, “but she was totally engaged in taking forward the challenges and opportunities that the sector currently has in Wales.”

Jenine added: “I’m sure her highlight was spending time in the playroom and reading with the children.”

Jenine thanked FSB Wales for supporting the nursery, with Rob Basini saying he was inspired by the work done at the nursery.

“The visit was a brilliant opportunity for the Shadow Secretary of State for Wales to see the everyday drive and passion of small businesses in Wales, and how the business has, through challenging times, continued to move forward and make a real contribution to the lives of children, parents and communities across South Wales.”
