HUNDREDS of Santas ran across Barry Island and were supposed to meet a banana.
The annual Barry Town Council's Santa Fun Run went ahead with aplomb today, December 11.
Hundreds of families and children turned out in Santa outfits along Barry’s promenade.
They were given a special Christmas welcome by mayor of Barry, councillor Helen Payne, who led the crowds through a vigorous warm-up before everyone gathered at the start line ready to run the 2k course.
The event was put on in aid of the mayor’s charities, with all profits split between Vale Peoples First - a self-advocacy organisation run by people with a learning disabilities in Glamorgan, Llamau homeless charity, and Young Minds UK supporting mental health particularly in young children.
Despite the cold conditions, the mayor said everyone was up for it!
“It is a fantastic event round Barry Island and there’s no roads so it is nice and safe,” the mayor told Barry and District News.
“What’s special is we have a crowd of People First runners today and they have been fantastic supporting us.”
