THE Mayor of Barry, Councillor Helen Payne, invested her own Scout Troop recently.

This is the first troop to be awarded the special commendation since 2019, due to the Covid.

The role of the Mayor’s Scout Troop is to support the Mayor at civic and charity events during the Mayor’s term of office.

The six chosen scouts received a new Barry Town Council Mayor’s Troop Necker.

The troop will attend events such as the Annual Meeting which is held in May, the Civic Service (to be confirmed by the incoming Mayor usually July or September), Remembrance Day Parade and Service and the Christmas Candlelight Service (held the last Sunday before Christmas), as well as charity events held through the year.

The scouts chosen for the troop were selected by Chris Parsons, district commissioner for Tir a Môr Scouts organisation, and they along with their parents were invited to the Council’s Chamber last night to receive their Neckers and certificates.
