THIS is a copy of a letter I have sent to Mr N Moore, council leader of the Vale of Glamorgan.

I am writing this letter to you and all other councillors about the disgusting state that the town of Barry is declining into. There is not a street in the town where dog fouling is not present.

For Holton Road is like a dogs toilet at times, and the pavements of Holton Road do need replacing in areas around the King Square post office and some places it’s like walking on a camphor, even delivery lorries have been parked on the pavements, for example outside the Buccaneer pub in Holton Road.

The litter is getting worse for example, take a walk down the steps to Morrisons over Gladstone Road Bridge, also have a look by your civic offices by the gap between Western Power Station and the wall area where the people have ditched rubbish.

Even the streets after the refuse has been collected are littered as if nothing was done, the council have the authority to enforce bylaws so why not, or better still, bring back the litter wardens, about 20 of them all around the town area.

They may cost in the beginning but will pay in the end.

I have recently contacted the council about the mess on the pavement on College Road opposite William Stores, where some oil or other fluid was spilt but nothing has been done about it, that was April 19.

I contacted the council again on April 22 as nothing has been done, and also the plastic window in the bus shelter that has been missing for at least a month or more.

I really wonder, like a lot of people in Barry and the Vale, what do we pay our council tax for. Is it to pay for the pensions of the councillors and chief executive?

There are a lot more things I would like to bring up but I will leave that to another day, for now.

There are fancy beach huts over Barry Island but the rest of the town is falling into decay.

Mr P Rees
