THE sand has been freshly ploughed

Some wit has written “vote Jedi” in the sand

On this quiet election Thursday morn.

The beach huts show a rainbow of hues

And excited children play on the beach

In fancy dress from a soldier to a princess

Then I purchase a coffee from Bay 5

Knowing spring has finally come alive.

An elderly couple reside on a bench

Patting their beloved Labrador

And people the size of ants

Stroll on the low cliff of Nell’s Point

Reminding me how insignificant we are.

A toddler and mother paddle in the sea

Which sparkles under a welcome blue sky

With white feather clouds slowly passing by.

The Somerset hills are covered

By a thin sea mist, the ocean

Snores softly under May sunshine

Lethargic waves lapping the shore

And winter storms now lost in time.

I prefer it here without the crowds

With more people than seagulls in the sea

Enjoying the view, sun relaxing me.
