TODAY is recycling/general waste collection day on Phyllis Street.

The recycling has just been collected, and the street is already a mess. I can’t wait for the general waste to be collected to make it more like a tip.

Throughout most of the year foot waste collectors clean up the mess left by the initial collections. This was not the case last week, so I hope they will be round this week, else a further email will follow.

The Vale of Glamorgan council’s waste strategy on Barry Island is fundamentally wrong. There are not enough cleansing personnel or bins (or they are too small) to cater for the additional visitors, that the excellent improvements to the promenade, etc, have attracted.

This means that more time is spent on the council-perceived “important” area of the Island, and the residential side is being neglected. Please could the council prioritise the needs of the Island council taxpayers, as without their money they couldn’t afford to clean up after the day trippers.

Initially, could they please send workers to clean up the Phyllis Street/Clive Road area.
