LOCAL athletes are being urged to support the annual Barry Beavers Disabled Swimming Club fundraising triathlon.

With the help of six other triathletes, a club trio - Chris, Cath and Rob - helped raise more than £2,000 last year which helped Barry Beavers to run their popular club attended by children and adults with a wide range of disabilities. They hope to raise even more money this year and challenge others to join in.

The triathlon will be held on Sunday, September 14, starting from Barry Leisure Centre at 9.30am. The event is open to individuals and teams and consists of a 40-length swim, 10km bike ride and a 5km run. The entry fee is £10 for individuals and £15 for groups.

Application forms can be obtained from Sarah Davies, telephone 01446 421632 or email sarahdavies2110@gmail.com. The closing date for entries is August 14.

Last years' winner Chris Economides, a Beavers club instructor, completed the event in 1h 23m, and was followed closely by Patrick Jones and Linda Ruston.

The club meets every Saturday (3.45-4.45pm) at Barry Leisure Centre for fun and activities as well as some serious swimming.
