BARRY Town began their preparations for the upcoming Welsh League Division Two season with a pair of useful warm-up matches this week.

On Saturday afternoon, a mix of first team and youth players were beaten 3-1 at Briton Ferry of Welsh League Division One.

The home side, who earned promotion with the final kick of their season, took the lead in the tenth minute when Steve Davey struck a curling free-kick into the top corner.

However, Barry's Dale Howarth would not be outdone, scoring a terrific free-kick of his own to level five minutes before the break.

A brace from forward Gareth Jones would settle matters in Ferry's favour, but the match provided an encouraging first run-out for Gavin Chesterfield's players.

On a sunny Tuesday evening at Bryntirion Park, Barry were then edged out 3-2 by an impressive Llanelli.

Striker James Dixon netted twice for Barry, finishing off a good move by Jordan Cotterill before winning and converting a penalty.

As with three days earlier, a number of the club's homegrown youngsters featured across the 90 minutes, with several other guest players also turning out for the annual Gary Lloyd Cup match, in honour of the Jenner Park and Stebonheath legend.

This Saturday, Barry travel to Hengrove Athletic to mark 50 years of football at the Western League club's Bristol home.
