WHAT a fabulous weekend for the annual Captain's Prize competition at Brynhill Club Championship, finals day apart, this is the most popular weekend in Brynhill's golfing calendar. This event is a 36 hole stroke play competition over two days i.e. Saturday and Sunday. This year resulted in the usual full programme of players and events which was more than ever superbly supported by the ladies who manned the refreshment tent on the 10th tee, extracting as much money as they could from the golfers for the Captain's charity.

The weekend was played in a great sporting spirit, as is always the case at Brynhill. Despite some inclement weather, there were some tremendous scores posted both on Saturday and Sunday. The outstanding score being the nett 63 recorded on Sunday by Tom Wilcox, who was the overall winner of the Captain's prize with a nett score of 136. Tom has played at Brynhill from a young age when he told everyone at the club that he wished to emulate his father Jeff’s achievements in the golfing world. However, Tom wisely listened to the advice given to him by all the members of the 'Box of Toys' group and went his own way which resulted in this wonderful win.

The presentation was made on Sunday evening in the club house by the club captain Mr John Giles who thanked all the members for their support, in particular all the ladies who helped over the two days including the ladies who kept the scoreboard up to date. The captain also thanked Kath Foran and her bar staff and Iain Grant and the green staff for presenting the course in excellent condition.
