ANOTHER home tie in the South Wales Intermediate Cup meant that MMG welcomed Brackla FC to Severn Avenue. Brackla would have been full of confidence after winning 8-0 in the last round and they started the game very well with MMG struggling to get a foothold in the game.

After a sloppy first 10 minutes, the game started to even itself out with both teams focusing on attacking. Brackla took the lead when a well worked corner was nodded in at the back post.

With both teams fully committed, the game was under threat from a lot of suspect decisions from the referee MMG drew level when a goal kick was flicked on by Michael Fallas and Josh Mazey turned fantastically 30 yards out and fired a shot low in to bottom left corner of the net.

An unfortunate injury to Tim Lednor meant a reshuffle with Anthony Connell pushing out wide and James Mason coming on up front. Brackla then took the lead for the second time in contentious fashion when a low cross was converted by the striker who was standing five yards behind the MMG defence.

MMG knew that they had to improve in the second half but they got off to the worst possible start with conceding a penalty within the first five minutes. The penalty was despatched well and a 3-1 scoreline looked bleak for MMG.

The introduction of new signing Dimitri Fallas provide effective straight away when he shimmied past two players and rifled an unstoppable shot passed the goalkeeper from 25 yards out.

With the score at 3-2, MMG really kicked on and started applying pressure to the Brackla back line. For the last 20 minutes, MMG took full control of the game, kept the ball well and started to create good goal scoring chances.

Solid goalkeeping and organised defence from Brackla coupled with the final ball not quite falling for the MMG attack meant that the game finished 3-2 to Brackla FC. MMG can be proud that they never gave up and gave a fantastic second half performance but on the day it wasn't enough to progress. Good luck to Brackla FC in the next round.
