SOUTH Wales Senior League Division One

Sully Sports 8 - Max Utd 0

Swanbridge Senior League pitch survived the torrential rain that put most of the area grounds out of action, including the junior and ladies pitches at Sully. Though a little long, the pitch was well grassed and the match went ahead on time. The visitors were promoted last season as winners of the second division but are finding life in the top flight a different arena having struggled of late but their last result saw them play a 1-1 draw with the league’s third placed team.

Sports started very well creating many chances in the early play and were rewarded when Wes Lamb fed Chris Rees whose cross was converted by Daniel Lawlor. Sully kept up the tempo and never gave Max a look in but was unable to find the net to add to the score in the early stages. Sully saw Wes Lamb crash a shot against the bar with the ball striking the back of the keeper only to ping back over the crossbar for a corner. Then a Lamb cross was headed over the bar by Mark Brown and Ed Jones won a header from a corner to net but the referee disallowed the effort for a foul on the keeper. It was 2-0 to Sully a minute before the interval as Rees glanced another Lamb cross past the keeper into the corner of the net and then it was a Taylor Harding shot that was well saved by the keeper at half time.

Max were not able to compete with the great amount of possession Sully had and it was Aiden Lewis who crossed for Lawlor to notch his second shortly afterwards that man Lawlor rammed home the fourth for his hat trick. Max did make Sports keeper Sharratt pull off a top draw save but in general the Sully defence were pushing forward with great invention. Sports fifth saw Lamb again feed Rees for his second.

Sports rang the changes as Jones and Townsend were rested and Alex Long and Conner Mcinery back after injury replaced them. The two impressed immediately and Lawlor’s pass was put in by the eager Long. Then Mcinery opened up the Max defence for Long to score his second. A rare Max attack saw Sharratt again dive to save. Robert Brown replaced Storer, and a great solo goal saw Alex Long complete a fine hat trick after combining with Mcinery again .This was a fine performance from the Sully team and hope to continue next week when they make the long journey to the Rhymney Valley where Fochriw will be waiting at the Welfare ground.

South Wales Youth League

Cardiff Corinthians 2 v 1 Sully Sports Youth

Cardiff Parks called their games on this weekend after cancelling games last weekend, to the surprise of many who thought the Vale Parks have called the last few weeks correctly. The Corries who have played fewer matches than Sully were unbeaten, like Sully, so something was always going to give in this game. The sides showed why they are both title contenders and despite chances Sully found themselves 2-0 down at the break. An even more spirited second half saw Sully with several chances before James Scott pulled one back for the visitors setting up a strong finish, but on a heavy pitch Sully just couldn't get that equaliser that their play deserved. Next Sunday the Youth visit The Celts Youth kick off 1.45pm.

Elsewhere the Sully Vale Division One team didn’t have a fixture and the Sully Ladies game v Penybont was also a victim of the weather.

The Sully Vale Division One side are away to the Tynewydd with the Ladies visiting Vale Ladies on Sunday.
