THREE Under 14 players of the Vale Ladies and Girls Football Club have been celebrating with a call up to represent the regional Wales squad at the end of November.

Anais Trinci, Jasmine Rowley and Sian Rees have been selected from a pool of talented players within the South Wales area to represent the squad in friendly matches.

This is a great achievement for the players involved who have worked extremely hard from a young age and further highlights the opportunities that exist within the female game currently.

All three players represent the club which has set-ups in both the Vale of Glamorgan and Cardiff areas with 11 teams and over 150 female players ranging from ages six to full senior ladies.

Club chairman and founder, Luke Williams, commented: “This is a great achievement for the three players involved who we are proud to have as part of the club. All three players have been part of the club for some time and their potential was clear from an early age and it is fantastic to see their hard work is paying off. If they can keep it up they have the potential to go on and earn full Welsh caps in the years to come.”

Although the club is relatively new having launched in April 2012, it has quickly become the largest female set-up in South Wales and Williams highlights the community engagement as a key reason for the club’s success.

“The rapid growth of the club is all down to the amount of activities we provide for girls football within the community. We have helped develop school leagues at both primary and secondary age groups, coaching programmes for schools, regular festivals and tournaments which has raised the profile of the club significantly. In just over two years the club has more than doubled its membership and our focus is to now keep building from grassroots age groups.”

New players of all abilities are always welcome at the club and anyone interested in trying girls’ football should email valegirlsfc@gmail.com or visit the club website: www.valegirlsfc@gmail.com.
