GLAMORGAN Artistic Roller Skating Club attended West Berkshire's Artistic Roller Skating competition on February 15.

The team left at 5am to be at the venue for 8am. They competed in nine events overall and were placed on the podium in almost every event they entered.

The results were: Mollie Griffith - sixth in the Newcomers Solo; in the under-10's novice solo Maya Archampong - second , Erin Maxwell - sixth, Bethan Daly first in her novice solo event; Michael Vaughan and Phoebe Escott joint first and Medi Western third in novice solo event; Nareece Iqbal seventh in novice solo; Ewan Maxwell first and Charleigh Griffith second in their novice solo's; Kaitlin Daly second in the elementary solo; Lara Goodwin second in the preliminary solo; Michael Vaughan and Bethan Daly first in the novice duo's; Charleigh Griffith and Ewan Maxwell fifth in novice duo's; Phoebe Escott and Medi Western fourth in novice duo's.

All novice teams were placed on the podium with a special mention to Medi Western who stepped in at the last moment to skate up two levels in the junior team, placing third and Elizabeth Vaughan who came fifth in the over 30's solo event.

It was a long day but extremely rewarding for the skaters and coaches who now feel that all the hard work in training is starting to pay off.

Sheilah Davies the head coach was unable to be at the event but was extremely proud of the skaters as were the other coaches, Anne Marie Escott, Elizabeth Vaughan, Donna Daly, and Hilary Cridge.

The coaches would also like to thank Julie Whittingham, a friend of the club who has been providing help to the coaching team.

The skaters train three times a week in Cogan, Colcot and Llantwit Major Leisure Centres. The club session is held at Colcot Sports Centre; Barry on Tuesday's from 6pm until 8pm, this cost's just £4 or £6 with skate hire - the best value roller skating session in the Vale. Skates must be reserved before attending.

The club sessions consists of basic skills, games and lessons all of which help improve balance, flexibility and core strength at each session, the club adheres to the guidelines set by the governing body FARS with regular grade testing being held in order for skaters to improve and progress through the grading system.
