BARRY Romilly Bowls Men and Ladies held their joint opening day last Saturday and were treated to a superb sunny day.

Over 50 players turned up to see men’s president Tony Freeman who asked the ladies president Dilys Liscombe to open the green by bowling the first woods of the 2015 season. This was followed by a game played between six mixed rinks over 12 ends on a green once again looking in excellent condition and bowling better than at the start of last season.

The Romilly men had already played and won a couple of friendly games away to Penarth Rectory Road and Llantwit Major winning both games.

The first competitive game is this coming Saturday with Romilly’s ‘A’ Team playing away to Millwood ‘A’ in the SVLA Cup with Romilly hoping to retain the cup once again.

Club captain Mel Newman has elected Multiple Sclerosis as his charity for this year and a horse race night was held on Saturday, April 4, at the clubhouse which was well supported and a total of £477 was raised for this worthwhile charity, which will hopefully be topped up with other events during the year.
