FC BARRY is celebrating after receiving a stylish new kit thanks to the McDonald’s restaurant. on Cardiff Road, Barry.

The restaurant has donated kit to the team as part of the McDonald’s FAW Accredited Club Kit Scheme. The under-9s team is one of the many clubs in Wales to benefit from the scheme, run in partnership with The Football Association of Wales (FAW) and their official kit supplier Adidas.

Following a successful first year, which saw 5,000 new kits delivered to clubs across Wales, grassroots clubs can now redeem their second kit as the McDonald’s FAW Accredited Club Kit Scheme launches for a second season, with the potential for over 6,400 kits to be distributed to clubs.

To celebrate the arrival of their kit, FC Barry held an event at their ground, where McDonald’s supervisor and community football supporter Tim Valintine personally delivered the kit to the team on behalf of McDonald’s franchisee David Balcombe.

David Balcombe, who owns seven McDonald’s restaurants across the South of Wales said: “Grassroots football clubs such as FC Barry are vital for communities, as they provide young people with the opportunity to get involved in football and feel part of a team. Clubs give up countless hours in order to provide high quality football opportunities to members of the local community. It’s important that businesses like McDonald’s support them and help to create the best possible experience for young aspiring footballers.”

FC Barry was established in 2012 and has seven teams across several age groups. The club has 12 dedicated coaches and is proud to be working their way up the accreditation ladder.

Rachel Wood, the under-9s coach at FC Barry said: “We’re hugely grateful to McDonald’s for donating a new kit for our under-9s team. An average team strip costs around £500 per season, so this really is a huge saving for us and means we can spend the money on other areas of the club that need it. The kids are all really excited about wearing their new strip. It’s helped to create a sense of unity and team spirit and we are already picking out next year’s free strip!”

The Welsh Football Trust’s Development Programmes manager, Jamie Clewer said: “The kit scheme is a fantastic example of how McDonald’s is supporting Welsh accredited clubs. The kits on offer from Adidas are outstanding and being able to claim a new one for the next three years will be a massive help to all youth clubs throughout the country.”
