THE Show Racism the Red Card (SRtRC) campaign has continued its success in educating young people in the Vale about racism.

Over the past year they have delivered 35 workshops in 29 schools and six youth clubs. The sessions focussed on various issues around racism, stereotyping and terminology.

Show Racism the Red Card is an anti-racism charity whose aim is to raise awareness amongst young people about racism in society. They make use of the powerful position of professional footballers and other sports stars as role models to deliver important messages about racism.

They have received a positive response from the teachers and pupils who have been involved in their sessions with one attendee saying: “The workshop shows how it makes people feel when you use the wrong term for their colour, culture or religion.”

Councillor Gwyn John, Cabinet member for Visible Services and Leisure, said: “Racism in all sport must be stamped out. I support all of the initiatives with schools and children that help us to achieve this aim.”
