South Wales Alliance League

Cadoxton Barry 1 (Dawson)

Penrhiwceiber Cons 3 (Bennett 2, Scott)

IT TOOK Penrhiwceiber just three minutes to take the lead when, after a tentative start by Cadoxton Barry, a through ball caught their defence napping to beat the offside trap and set up the simplest of goals for Bennet.

Then a Penrhiwceiber throw in set up a scramble in front of the CB goal, Harker executing a fine save with his outstretched feet to save the day for the club.

With CB now on the back foot, it was 15 minutes before they threatened seriously, Adams breaking the spell as he robbed the big centre forward to fire just wide. Then Eastman headed forward to find Thompson who, in turn, pushed the ball on to find Weekley, his shot going wide.

With a lot of action now happening in the visitors' box, two hand ball calls in a minute were waved on. But a warning of things to come arrived when Gannon trapped a ball and lost his balance to leave Penrhiwceiber a free shot at goal, though it was blasted well over.

Then Penrhiwceiber saw a fine curling drive from 25 yards smite the CB cross bar. But, on the break, Lendl fired a ball in from the corner of the field for Dawson to score - well apparently - because it was questionable whether its deletion for offside was justifiable. CB continued to retain the territorial advantage as the half-time whistle approached.

Shortly after the restart a long ball from Beattie found Dawson getting ahead of the offside trap with the 'keeper out of position. He needed no second invite to level the score up with a simple tap in.

But Penrhiwceiber's reaction was to break down the left to see the final shot go only just wide of CB's near post. CB were now beginning to look the more likely winners as an extended spell of pressure saw them taking the wrong option in front of goal on a number of occasions.

CB paid the penalty for this when a low through ball from the left found Scott spotting Harker slightly forward of his line to restore the visitors' lead with a well judged lob on the 70 minute mark. Another Penrhiwceiber dip at goal shortly after saw Harker doing well to push it up and on to the bar.

With time getting short, Fiddler and Sam Williams joined the fray, with CB adopting quite a high line in the hope of rescuing something from the situation. For a while it seemed that it might work as the pressure on a well defended Penrhiwceiber goal mounted. A dangerous Steel cross was well read and then Adamson fired wide from a Weekley long throw. But eventually Penrhiwceiber managed to clear their lines with a long clearance down the left to find Scott to put the final nail in the CB coffin with an excellent hooked shot from distance.

Next Saturday Cadoxton Barry take to the road when Cwmbach Royal Stars will be the destination in a 2pm kick off
