WHAT a way to start the season when Sully Bowling Club took on a team from Porthcawl containing five internationals, one Welsh champion and six county players.

On the day, although bright, a strong wind was a great leveller for all concerned. With one rink, B Curtis, T Murphy, J Best and I Patterson being the only rink up 23-19, thanks to some great bowling by the skip.

The rink of A Rees, G Neady, A Thomas and D Edwards were unlucky to lose on a last end shootout having been all square on 20 ends 19-25. The other two rinks A Smith, E Pryer, M Hardy and B Griffiths 15-27 and D Curtain, H Jones, D Hotchkins and C Best 8-27, fought hard but could never contain the strength of the opposition.

It is interesting to note that at 15 ends Sully were only nine down across the board, but fatigue set in in the last six ends, finishing 65-98.

On Wednesday, May 4, the Munroe Cup starts away to Barry Central and Saturday, May 7, the team are away to Cefn Cribwr.
