FOUR Special Olympics Wales golfers travelled to Bicester Golf Club on Monday, April 25 to take part in the West Midlands Regional Golf competition.

The group set out at 9.30am on Monday arriving at noon when all four undertook some instruction from the golf professional on both the short and long game.

At 4.30pm they left for the hotel and golf club ahead of the event on Tuesday. On the morning the group teed off at 9.30am in dry weather but on the way round the course they incurred sun, rain, wind, snow and sleet.

Mathew Sims a Special Olympics Wales golfer from Cardiff competed in the 18 hole competition and received third place with a round of 103. The nine hole competition was split in to three divisions as there was a large entry.

James Savory from Barry took division one with Mark Eveleigh, also from Barry, coming in fourth place.

Division two was won by Gareth Lloyd from Barry with Adrian Abbott from Llantwit Major receiving sixth place. All four golfers play weekly at St Andrews Major Golf Club in Barry under the watchful eye of golf professional John Hasting.

Special Olympics provide sports training and competition all year round for adults and children with learning disabilities in the Vale of Glamorgan. They also have groups in Artistic Gymnastics, Boccia, Bocce and Kayaking in near by Bridgend, in Cardiff there is badminton, swimming, indoor bowls and 10 pin bowling all within a short distance.
