ON SATURDAY Barry Athletic entertained Rogerstone at The Athletic Ground and won the toss.

They decided to bat first on a warm humid afternoon and were bowled out for 94 in 28.5 overs as Rogerstone exerted pressure with only Rhett Jones with a fine 47 not out and Steve Provis being the only two players getting into double figures.

The innings included five scores of zero, but Barry nearly brought off the inpossible as they reduced their visitors to 50 for five at tea, then they picked up another four wickets in the next six overs.

The game was on as the impossible started to become possible but it was not to be as Ramji and Jones saw Rogerstone home to a nail biting one wicket win, with Gavin White claiming four catches behind the wickets being shared between Steve Provis three for 23, Peter Hellyar three for 29 and Nathan Baker three for 31.

Barry's 2nd XI travelled to Rogerstone and won by 37 runs as they scored 171 for eight, with Lee Morgan 89 not out, Damon Leake 22 and Glan Williams 17 being the main runners, with Berry, Harnden and Robson all taking two wickets each.

In reply Rogerstone were bowled out for 134 with Harnden 37 and Goddard 23 being the main scorers, with Simon Phillips three for 23, Paul Murphy three for 39 and David Evans two for 37 to gain Barry their first win of the season.

This weekend Barry Athletic 1st XI travel to Ponthir, with the 2nd XI entertaining the same opposition at The Athletic Ground.
