ON SATURDAY, Barry Athletic Cricket Club's 1st XI travelled to Malpas to take on the top side.

Barry Athletic still had a chance of promotion and won the toss and asked their hosts to bat first.

Soon Malpas were 41 for 3 after 22 overs as Hellyar, Griffett and Baker removed Ward, Baker and Griffiths respectively. This brought Lewis Morgan to the wicket and added 93 with Ross Ward before Ward was LBW to Simon Phillips for 26, Mason then joined Morgan and added 68 before Morgan was out bowled by Ferriday for 103.

Malpas then lost their last five wickets for 34 runs as Paul Murphy picked up 3 for 63. Main bowlers were Griffett (1 for 21) in his 10 overs and Hellyar (1 for 17) in his 10 overs as Malpas were bowled out for 236.

In reply Barry got off to a bad start as they lost Murphy (5) and Jones (9) with just 26 on the board. White and Ashley Baker then added 48 before suffered a collapse as their last seven wickets fell for 61 runs in 13 overs.

Nathan Baker getting double figures as Barry were bowled out for 125 and promotion now no longer on the table.

Barry's 2nd XI entertained Malpas 2nd XI at the Island on Saturday and won the toss and asked their opponents to bat first. They racked up a score of 299 in their 45 overs with (4 for 65) and Nicky Jones (3 for 33) being the main wicket takers with Simmonds (126) and Archer (97) being the main run scorers.

In reply, Barry opened with Lee 'Boycott' Morgan and Rhys 'Tavare' Howell as they put on 95 for the first wicket in 31 overs before Howell was out for 22, Morgan scored 75 and a fine 53 not out by Craig Brock as Barry reached 200 for 3 and maximum batting points thus keeping their Division 2 status for next season.

On Sunday, Barry travelled the short distance to Dinas Powys to play a rearranged game. Captain Ashley Baker winning the toss and asking Dinas Powys to bat first, and they reached 171 all out from their 40 overs with Nicky Morgan (4 for 46) and Andy Ellis (2 for 34) being the main wicket takers.

In reply Barry were 150 for 9 in their 40 overs with a fine 43 not out from Simon Phillips, 28 from Reji and 14 from Ashley Baker and another eight points gained.

This week Barry Athletic 1st XI travel the short distance to Cardiff to play Cardiff Gymkhana with the 2nd XI entertaining the same opposition at home.

On Saturday, September 10, Barry Athletic 1st XI play their final league game when they entertain Brecon at The Island in a re-arranged game.
