Cardiff Airport 2nds 6 - Glenbrook 1

CARDIFF Airport 2nd football team played host to Glenbrook in this Vale of Glamorgan Division 1 fixture at Barry Sports Centre on Saturday, August 27.

Managers Hawkins and Swennson had the luxury of being able to call upon seasoned regulars and the new youth squad and it was this mixture of experience and fitness that proved too much for the Glenbrook players.

Airport took an early lead with a neat finish from Jordon Ross and this was the start of the scoring. After a sweeping move from the right flank to the left Luke Pearson broke though the Glenbrook back line and finished with confidence past the advancing Royston Harding.

After the break the youth played a major part although respect has to be paid to the Glenbrook 'keeper Harding who rolled back the years with fine saves from Ross and young Max Jones.

Not to be denied the Airport pressed forward and Aaron Malpas fired in with a half volley which was quickly followed by another from Ross. Airport made changes and two goals in as many minutes from Max Jones and the airport were 6 - 0 in front.

Not to denied a consolation goal Glenbrook continued to plug away and after a fine save from Parsons in the Airport goal and a mix-up in the airport defence the Glenbrook striker took his chance with a rifling finish from 10 yards out.

Cardiff Airport would like to thank match sponsors ATEC Drainage systems. Man-of-the-match was Jordon Ross.

Cardiff Airport 4 - Cardiff Hibs 2

On Bank Holiday Monday the Airport 1st team travelled to Ely to face Cardiff Hibs in an eagerly awaited Welsh Ground Hopper South Wales Alliance Division 2 game.

The Airport started quickly and within five minutes were one up, Michael Hall with an in swinging corner and skipper Liam Davies rising highest to head the Airport in front.

The lead however, did not last long after a mix-up between Finlay and 'keeper Walters and a very fortunate deflection somehow saw the ball end up in the Airport net making it 1 - 1.

With both sides struggling in the heat it was the Airport who pressed forward and were rewarded on 35 minutes.

A fine move on short ball play and Hall/Stephenson combined to release Martyn, his pace and power allowed him to get free and with space running out he fired a low shot into the corner.

Airport should have had a third before the break but three fine saves in as many seconds to Deny Richards/Hall and Wride saw the score at 2 - 1.

Half-time saw mini football and gymnastics on the field to entertain the 300 strong crowd, however the extended break did the Airport no favours and they started the second half very slowly and were punished for completely switching off.

Hibs broke down the left and after a fine save from Walters the Hibs striker finished neatly from a tight angle. Hibs now had the balance of play and threatened with each attack.

Last ditch defending from Davies and Baker and two further saves from Walters and Airport felt they had weathered the storm and it was from another Hibs pacey attack that the Airport went in front.

Another fine tackle from Baker released Stephenson who sent a ball over the top for Martyn who showed composure with defenders and the advancing 'keeper to send a left foot lob into the roof of the net.

Handbags were then thrown on the line and the game stopped to restore order and once it did the ever dangerous Richards now had the desire to run the tiring Hibs defence. After another powerful run down the left he sent in a low cross which found its way to Hall on the back post who finished neatly from six yards and confirm the points for the Airport. Cardiff Airport would like thank match and kit sponsor RIM Motors. Man-of-the-match Michael Baker.
