Barry ended phase one of the season with a bang, scoring four second half goals to win the vital Cymru Premier away match at Aberystwyth Town.

While still in ninth place, the result leaves Barry only five points behind a play-off place in seventh, and nine points ahead of the relegation zone.

Barry did it the hard way against tenth placed Aberystwyth, though, with the hosts taking a third minute lead.

Playing from right to left, Alex Darlington released Jonny Owen, whose chipped shot beat Barry ‘keeper Luc Rees.

In the 25th minute, Aber nearly doubled their lead with Owen’s shot crashing against the underside of the bar and bouncing downwards and away from the goal.

However, the second half saw Barry blow away the home side.

In the 46th minute, Mike George shrugged off the challenge from the defender and crossed for Sam Snaith’s to calmly thread his shot from the edge of the box through the defence.

Barry took the lead two minutes later. Snaith and Ollie Hulbert combined for Lucas Tomlinson to lash his shot past Dave Jones in the Aberystwyth goal.

It could have been three soon after, with Aber surviving a goalmouth melee on the hour mark.

Eventually, Barry made it 3-1 after 74 minutes. After some slick passing in the middle of the pitch, Mike George’s cross from the right saw Kayne McLaggon in space, and he headed downwards into the bottom corner.

In the 80th minute, Ollie Hulbert got in on the action, with Tomlinson breaking fast on the counter-attack before setting up the striker to score Barry’s fourth of the night, and his tenth of the season.

Aberystwyth got a consolation goal in injury time through substitute Jonathan Evans.

Barry have a break before the start of Phase Two, but Jenner Park hosts the MG Cup Final between The New Saints and Swansea City on Saturday.
