Barry Women won their first home game of 2024 with a 4-1 win over fourth placed TNS at Jenner Park in the Genero Adran Premier, and three players scoring their first league goals of the season.

New signing Danielle Broadhurst scored on her home debut after just four minutes, having signed from champions Cardiff City in the recently opened transfer window.

Barry attacked down the left and, when the cross came in, a feint at the near post drew the defender and left Broadhurst with an empty net to slot home.

Having been well beaten in the return game at Oswestry earlier in the season, it was clear that Barry had strengthened, and comfortably held onto their lead through the first half.

As with all sport last weekend, the strong winds and rains affected play, but didn’t unsettle Barry, who used the conditions to their advantage in the second half.

Barry doubled their lead just before the 70 minute mark. Substitute Aimee Deacon chased down the visitors’ keeper, who was looking to kick clear from within her penalty box. However, the attempted clearance came back off Deacon and bounced into the goal.

Four minutes later, Barry captain Chloe Tiley made it 3-0 direct from an inswinging corner from the Barry left, her first goal of the season.

Barry’s fourth goal came after 86 minutes. Goalkeeper Emily Brennan’s kick was wind assisted and when the cross came in, TNS could only clear as far as Amelia Herbert, whose low shot from twelve yards squirmed under the keeper.

The three points were now certain, but Barry couldn’t quite keep a clean sheet, with Lia Lewis catching Brennan off her line in injury time.

Barry travel to Cardiff Met on Sunday (2pm kick-off) knowing that another victory will see them leapfrog the students in the league table.
