Round up of Vale teams in action in the lower football leagues at the weekend by Terry Allday

The weekend saw the quarter-finals of the Hugh James SWFA Senior Cup with three Vale teams making up the competing eight clubs.

On the Friday evening, Cogan Coronation faced Splott Cons from the Cardiff and District League, but were on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline. Tyler O’Brien was their only scorer.

Sully Sports faced SW Alliance Premier high flyers FC Cwmaman at BP Sports Fields, Sully.

Cwm scored both sides of half time giving Sully a mountain to climb against the highest scorers and meanest defence in the Premier Division.

A third for Cwm on the hour mark sealed a 3-0 victory.

At Jenner Park, Cardiff Airport faced Alliance Premier rivals Treherbert BGC.

Treherbert’s keeper made several good saves early on, but Michael Hall followed up from yet another save to score the only goal of the game after 30 minutes.

Although under pressure from their Rhondda opponents for most of the second half, Airport held on for victory which will see them play FC Cwmaman in the Semi-Finals on March 23.

League action in the Championship saw a local derby at Wenvoe when Ely Rangers faced Vale United and yet another goal-fest.

Archie Leckie, a pair from Richard Greaves and Jaden Bahumaid sent Rangers into a four goal lead before Dan Hanson got one back, but three more from Alex Long (two) and Richard Greaves completing his hat-trick put Rangers 7-1 up at half time.

Lewis James got another consolation for Vale before Alex Long completed his hat-trick and an 8-2 victory.

That's a total of 40 goals in the last five Rangers' games - 25 of them to Rangers - and 32 goals so far this season between Richard Greaves (18) and Alex Long (14).
